Garcia Releases CSUSM's 2023 Baseball Schedule
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Eager to make his head coaching debut, Cal State San Marcos Head Baseball Coach Jose Garcia announced the Cougars' 2023 schedule on Monday.
CSUSM's 50-game schedule includes 28 home games, 22 road contests, 10 non-conference games and 40 CCAA contests.
"After a really great fall, we are excited to shift our focus to the 2023 spring season," Garcia said. "We have a great core of returners with CCAA experience and a solid group of newcomers that we think rounds out our roster nicely. Our guys gutted out a tough and demanding fall, and I think it has better prepared us for the demands of our season. We have a very good non-conference schedule that will get us ready for that CCAA opener here at home against Chico State on Feb. 24th."
The Cougars will begin the season with a single game on the road against Biola on Feb. 3 before returning to San Marcos for a doubleheader against the Eagles on Feb. 4. CSUSM will then welcome Montana State Billings for a four-game series on Feb. 9-11. The Cougars will conclude non-conference action by facing Concordia University Irvine in Irvine on Feb. 17 and a doubleheader against the Golden Eagles on Feb. 18 in San Marcos.
CSUSM will open up CCAA play at home against Garcia's former team in Chico State on Feb. 24-26. The Cougars' first road series of the season will see them head to Cal State San Bernardino on March 3-5 before returning to CSUSM Baseball Field to face Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 10-12. Before the Cougars' bye week, CSUSM will head to Cal State LA on March 17-19.
After CSUSM returns from its break in action, it'll host Stanislaus State on March 31-April 2. The Cougars will head to NorCal for the first time on April 6-8 to face San Francisco State before returning to San Marcos to face Cal Poly Pomona on April 14-16. CSUSM will return to Northern California on April 21-23 to go up against Sonoma State before wrapping up its home schedule against Cal State East Bay on April 28-30. CSUSM will end the regular season on the road at Cal State Monterey Bay on May 4-6.
Should CSUSM be one of the top six teams in the CCAA standings after the regular season, it'll head back to Seaside for the CCAA Tournament on May 10-13.
"The CCAA is as competitive as any conference in the nation top to bottom, and I'm looking to seeing our guys going out there and competing every week," Garcia said.
