SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (4-5, 3-1 CCAA) secured the series win against Cal State LA (7-7, 1-3 CCAA) by a score of 8-7 in the finale on Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first and saw the Cougars bat around as Scalley hit a two-run single up the middle, Lake scored on a wild pitch, Potter hit an RBI double to left center and Jordan Ku hit an RBI single to left.
- The Cougars went up 6-0 as Potter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second.
- The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to right by Javy Espinoza and an RBI single to center by Matthew Piotrowski.
- In the top of the fourth, a wild pitch and throwing error to third allowed Isaiah Marquez to score before another sacrifice fly to right by Ethan Gonzalez put the Golden Eagles within striking distance at 6-4.
- CSUSM made it a three-run game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single through the right side by Lake.
- LA gained a run back in the top of the fifth with a solo shot to left center by Elijah Jackson.
- The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 7-6 in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to right by Ethan Gonzalez.
- LA tied the game at 7-all in the top of the seventh as Art Ruiz gained an RBI on a fielder's choice to right that platted Espinoza while the runner was forced out at second.
- The Cougars put the go-ahead run across in the bottom of the eighth. After Teunissen singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on an error at first, he scored on a fielder's choice to first and gave CSUSM an 8-7 lead.
- In the top of the ninth, Drew Emmons hit a leadoff single to left and advanced to second on a groundout. With the tying run at second and two outs, Preston Kelly got a swinging strikeout to end the game and hand CSUSM the series win.
QUICK HITS
- This was CSUSM's first series win against LA since 2019 and was the third in the all-time series.
- CSUSM earned its first CCAA series win at home since 2022 when it took three of four against Cal State San Bernardino.
- The Cougars improved their all-time series lead against the Golden Eagles to 17-15 and 11-5 at home.
- Pitching 2.1 innings of relief, Kelly (2-0) earned his second win of the weekend as he struck out two while allowing two hits and a hit-by-pitch.
- LA reliever Moises Escobedo (0-2) took the loss as he allowed the go-ahead run in one inning of work.
