SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (23-21, 18-17 CCAA) began its final series of the regular season with a 14-7 loss to Cal State San Bernardino (28-19, 20-17 CCAA) on Thursday at Fiscalini Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hitting a home run for the fourth consecutive game, Fisher Pyatt delivered with a two-run shot in the top of the third to give CSUSM a 2-0 lead.
- Held hitless through 4.2 innings, the Coyotes' offense finally saw life in the bottom of the fifth with RBI singles from Dom Dominguez and Benji Solano before a three-run homer from Jason Shedlock gave CSUSB a 5-2 lead.
- CSUSB struck for five more runs in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Dominguez, a two-run single by Solano and a two-run double by Wyatt Hall to take a 10-2 lead.
- The Cougars cut the deficit to 10-3 in the top of the seventh as a sacrifice fly from Zavien Watson scored Pyatt.
- For the second straight weekend, CSUSM hit a grand slam, this time coming off the bat of Phoenix Sommay as he cut the CSUSB lead to 10-7 in the top of the eighth.
- The Coyotes matched the Cougars' four-run inning in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Daryl Ruiz, a CSUSM error that plated a runner and a two-run shot from Jeremy Giesegh to go up 14-7.

- Coyote starter Dylan O'Connor (5-2) earned the win after striking out four while allowing three earned runs on six hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch in 7.0 innings.
- Cougar starter Spencer Anderson (5-3) took the loss after surrendering 10 earned runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out two in 5.1 innings.
- Pyatt's homer was his seventh of the season, tying for the team lead, while Sommay's was his fifth.
- This was Sommay's team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the year.
- Pyatt tallied his team-best eighth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Dylan Unangst improved his reached-base streak to 11 games, entering a five-way tie for the best on the team this season.
- CSUSM dropped to seventh in the CCAA standings with the loss as CSUSB improved to sixth.
