SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Kayla Noob of women's soccer and Ryan Meinardus of men's soccer have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2024.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Knoob began her collegiate career on a strong note by leading CSUSM with 10 points, four goals, two assists, 10 shots on goal and 15 total shots. The freshman from Fountain Valley scored her first career goal in the season opener against then-No. 1 Point Loma and then scored in three consecutive games against Azusa Pacific, Colorado State Pueblo and Biola. Her two assists came against Biola and the final game of the month at Cal State East Bay.
Meinardus got off to a hot start by leading the Cougars with 11 points, five goals, three game-winning goals, 15 shots on goal and 20 total shots. The redshirt senior from Placentia had garnered CCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors after beginning the season with an assist against Colorado Colorado Springs and his second career two-goal day against Colorado School of Mines. He then had goals against CUI, Biola and Westmont to end the month.
Knoob and Meinardus will each begin CCAA play on Friday at Sonoma State. The women's game will get underway at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men's match at 3 p.m.
