No. 23 CSUSM Takes Two From Vanguard
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 23 Cal State San Marcos softball team (10-1) concluded the weekend with another sweep, taking two from Vanguard (1-6) by scores of 6-2 and 7-6 on Sunday at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vanguard got on the board in the top of the third on a Kamryn Walker 2-RBI double down the left line to make it 2-0.
- The Cougars' offense came alive in the third with four runs on three hits. Jillian Albayati hit a two-run homer with CSUSM's other two runs scoring on Vanguard errors.
- A sacrifice fly by Delaney Prater in the fifth raised CSUSM's lead to 5-2.
- The Cougars pushed one more run across in the sixth on Albayati's RBI single through the left side that plated Jordan Elias to make it 6-2.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starting pitcher Savannah Coyle (4-1) collected a complete-game victory, allowing two runs on six hits and one ball while striking out four batters.
- VU starting pitcher Brianna Williams (1-3) took the loss after six innings in the circle, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and no walks.
- Albayati's home run was her second of the season

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jordan Elias drew a walk, stole second and third before plating on a ground out by Paige Donnelly.
- With two outs and a runner on first, the Lions took advantage of a CSUSM error to prolong the inning which resulted in six unearned runs on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.
- The Cougars answered in the bottom of the third with four runs on four hits and a error. Albayati knocked out an RBI single before scoring on a Olivia Rivera RBI single to center that also plated Madison Waymire due to a VU error. CSUSM's final run of the inning came on a passed ball that brought Rivera into score to make it 6-5.
- After Elias hit a one-out single to left, Donnelly hit a line drive homer to left field to put CSUSM back on top at 7-6.

- CSUSM reliever Dahlia Fink (2-0) through three perfect innings with one strikeout to pick up the win.
- Jayline Sloss (1) collected the save after allowing no runs on two hits and one hit batter in 2.0 innings.
- VU's reliever Mia Iacomini (0-1) took the loss after giving up the two-run homer in the fourth.
- Paige Donnelly's home run is her second of the season, tying her with Jillian Albayati with the most on the team.
