CSUSM Falls to Chico Despite Fourth-Quarter Surge, 79-66
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (4-5, 1-3 CCAA) dropped a 79-66 decision to Chico State (8-3, 4-0 CCAA) on Sunday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chico opened the scoring on a Nseije Ortiz three at 8:44 of the first quarter to go up 3-0. CSUSM answered with a Kate Bobadilla three at 7:50 to tie the game at 5-5.
- The Wildcats closed the first quarter with a 25-11 lead, keyed by a 10-2 run in the final 3:36.
- Kristan Yumul knocked down a three to open the second quarter (9:47) to cut the deficit to 25-14, but Chico pushed the margin to 31-14 by 7:57.
- CSUSM trailed 49-25 at halftime after shooting 31.0% (9-of-29) to Chico's 57.6% (19-of-33).
- In the third, Kaity Haan sank two free throws at 7:41. The Cougars then trimmed the margin to 20 on a Kaitlyn Beall layup at 5:11, but Chico rebuilt a 25-point advantage at 4:34.
- Haan buried a three with 5:53 remaining in the fourth to make it 67-48, sparking a late 7-0 spurt that brought CSUSM within 15 at 3:30.
- Tamashiro hit her fifth three with 2:09 left to bring it to 75-59, and Maddie Leiva beat the buzzer with a right-wing three to set the final margin at 79-66.
