Murr Selected CCAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
One of the unquestioned greatest golfers in CCAA history is also one of the top academic performers in a conference with over 4,000 student-athletes. Cal State San Marcos' Madison Murr added yet another accolade to her trophy case as she closed her collegiate career by being named the 2024-25 CCAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The award is voted on and selected by the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) from the Conference's 12-member institutions. It focuses on student-athletes' work in the classroom, the community, and their respective sports.
Murr was a three-time WGCA All-American, the 2024-25 NCAA Individual National Champion, and the 2025 PING WGCA co-Player of the Year. She did all this while maintaining a 3.968 grade point average as an Environmental Studies major.
The Los Alamitos native excelled on the links and in the classroom during her storied four seasons at CSUSM. She posted five semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and was a three-time CCAA Honor Roll recipient and a five-time member of the CCAA All-Academic Team. She also earned two CSC Academic Achievement awards, three D2 ADA Academic Achievement awards, and four WGCA All-American Scholar honors. In her senior season, Murr added the prestigious NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award.
“Congratulations to Madison for this unbelievably deserving award," said Cal State San Marcos Director of Athletics Morod Shah. Not only is Madison the best at her sport and a national champion, she is also a champion in the classroom, community, and a leader amongst her peers. Madison is the definition of relentless and what it means to be a CSUSM Cougar on and off the golf course in our community.”
Even with the countless hours Murr invested in her studies and in mastering her craft, she found time to give back to CSUSM and the San Marcos community. For five years, she served as the representative for women's golf on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and helped with a Toy Drive for the San Marcos Boys and Girls Club. Murr helped begin a partnership with NMDP, a national bone marrow transplant registry that allows for thousands to find stem cell donors. She and members of SAAC assisted NMDP with finding students on campus to give samples and add themselves to the registry. Murr also put in hours at the North County San Diego Food Bank and assisted with an on-campus Cornhole tournament, with the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Out on the course, Murr was one of the best golfers ever to pick up a club in the CCAA. She earned four first-team All-CCAA honors and was the 2024-25 CCAA Individual Champion. She would collect three all-region awards and back-to-back CCAA Women's Golfer of the Year awards. Murr won the 2024-25 WGCA Division II Inkster Award (awarded annually to the highest ranked women’s collegiate golfer in their final year of eligibility) before capping off her career by winning the national title and national player of the year.
Her success helped lead Cal State San Marcos women's golf to its greatest run in program history. It won all four CCAA championships, extending its winning streak to six consecutive seasons. The Cougars also qualified for the NCAA West Regional in all four seasons, and CSUSM advanced to the NCAA Championships three times.
"Madison had an incredible year and we're extremely proud of her achievements both on and off the golf course," said Cal State San Marcos Women's Golf Head Coach Greg Hutton. "Madison truly defines what it means to be a scholar-athlete. Her hard work and commitment are unmatched. She is truly deserving of this award."
Murr will attend LPGA Q-School in September, where she will begin her professional career and journey to gaining status on the LPGA Tour. She is currently ranked 197th in the world.
Murr is the first women's golfer ever to win CCAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and only the third golfer (the award began in 1989-90). She joins Akayla Hackson (2021-22) as the only Cal State San Marcos student-athletes to win CCAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since Cal State San Marcos joined the conference in 2015.
