Strong Opening Not Enough, CSUSM Falls in Four at East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (4-17, 3-10 CCAA) dropped a four-set decision (25-21, 16-25, 11-25, 18-25) to Cal State East Bay (12-9, 9-4 CCAA) on Friday evening at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set 1: CSUSM opened the match with a strong performance, using a 6-1 run to build a 17-9 lead. Addison Kranz led the offense with five kills, and Jules Tindall contributed a solo block. The Cougars held off a late East Bay push to secure a 25-21 win.
  • Set 2: East Bay responded with a dominant second set, pulling away with a 7-1 run late in the frame to collect a 25-16 win.
  • Set 3: The Pioneers jumped out to a 6-1 lead and maintained control throughout to go up 2-1 with a 25-11 set victory.
  • Set 4: The Cougars kept pace early, tying the set at 5-5, but East Bay used a 7-2 run to take command. Despite a late push, CSUSM fell 25-18 as the Pioneers closed out the match.
