No. 18 CSUSM Splits Saturday Twinbill at CSUDH
CARSON, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (34-15, 20-12 CCAA) ended the weekend with a run-ruled, five-inning 9-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills (29-20, 16-14 CCAA) on Saturday at Toro Field in Carson. The Cougars split the doubleheader, falling 5-3 in the opener.
With the win, CSUSM secured its spot in the CCAA Tournament which will be held April 30-May 3 in Rohnert Park on the campus of Sonoma State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Toro took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Torie Au.
- CSUDH doubled its lead in the next frame, taking advantage of a CSUSM error to make it 2-0.
- The Cougars evened the game at 2-all in the third on a two-run homer by Madison Waymire.
- A solo home run by Waymire put CSUSM on top at 3-2 in the fifth inning.
- The Toros regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer by Andrea Tellez to make it 4-3 CSUDH.
- An RBI single by Mireya Rico in the bottom of the sixth secured the Toros an insurance run, making it 5-3.

- CSUDH pitcher Lillianna Garcia (14-4) recorded the win after allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 2.0 innings in the circle.
- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (14-6) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in 5.0 inning.
- Madison Waymire extended her streak of reaching base safely to a team-best 18 games.
- With the two home runs in the game, Waymire raised her season total to eight, tying for second in the CCAA with CSUDH's Kaylee Hull and Ally Alcayaga of Cal State Monterey Bay.

- The Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Czar Fleischman and Brookly Ury and an RBI double by Makenzie Guiliano.
- CSUSM added another run in the top of the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice from Jillian Albayati.
- The lone Toro run came on a solo home run by Kaylee Hull in the bottom of the fourth.
- In the top of the fifth, the Cougars posted four more runs on RBI singles from Dahlia Fink, Madison Waymire, Paige Donnelly and Albayati.

The Cougars will begin the series with a Friday 1 p.m. doubleheader before concluding it with an 11 a.m. twinbill on Saturday. CSUSM will celebrate its 10 seniors following Saturday's doubleheader with a special Senior Day ceremony.
