No. 3 CSUSM Sweeps Biola in Home-Opening Doubleheader
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (11-1) opened its 2026 home schedule with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Biola (5-8) on Friday afternoon at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars won the first game 9-0 in six innings via run rule before closing out the day with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, Rae D'Amato opened the bottom of the second with a double to right field before Czar Fleischman drew a walk. Sarah Bull followed by crushing a three-run home run to left—giving CSUSM a 3-0 lead. Lauren Deplitch later added a single and a stolen base to continue the pressure.
- In the fifth, Marissa Morales laid down a bunt single ahead of Jillian Albayati's two-run home run to center. After another single by D'Amato, Fleischman launched a two-run homer to straightaway center to extend the lead to 7-0.
- Madilyn Novello led off the sixth with a double, and with two outs, Albayati connected for her second home run of the day—a two-run blast—to make it 9-0. Jordan Hill retired Biola in the seventh to complete the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Biola scored twice in the first inning on an RBI single by Kendall Nakano followed by an error that allowed a second run.
- CSUSM responded with a five-run second inning. Czar Fleischman walked and scored on Angelina Rodriquez's RBI single up the middle. After a walk to Hannah Tandy, Jordan Elias drove an RBI single down the left-field line to tie the game. Kaila Siu then delivered a two-run double to left center, and Jillian Albayati singled through the left side to score Siu and make it 5-2.
- In the fourth, Jordan Elias scored on a strikeout-reach and an error at the plate, pushing the Cougars ahead 6-2. Biola scratched across a run in the seventh, but a groundout to second ended the game.
