With a demonstrated drive toward outstanding citizenship, Cal State San Marcos' volleyball student-athlete Jackie Phillips has been named the 2024-25 CCAA Impact Award recipient.
 
The Impact Award recognizes a single CCAA student-athlete who has exemplified leadership through participation in community service and engagement activities while maintaining dedication to academics and athletics. Selections are made by the conference’s Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC).
 
Phillips was a four-year letterwinner, a libero/defensive specialist for the CSUSM volleyball team, and the co-president of SAAC. She won numerous CCAA and regional academic awards, including CSC Academic All-District honors. Phillips was voted an All-CCAA honorable mention in 2024 after averaging 3.9 digs, 1.01 assists, and 0.27 aces per set.  
 
The native of Tualatin, Ore., also led various community service initiatives, including volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, helping with a toy drive, organizing a local cornhole fundraiser for Make-A-Wish, and collecting donations for the North County Food Bank.
 
Phillips' commitment to community service extended into her passion for health and wellness advocacy. She served as a lead coordinator for the NMDP bone marrow donor registry, tabling and educating individuals on life-saving donations for blood cancer patients. She also volunteered at the Craft Makery, where her volleyball team created small giveaway items for a Wellness Fair to promote health and well-being.
 
She is committed to environmental sustainability, which led her to join the Surfrider Foundation’s beach cleanup, where she helped collect plastic, trash, and other debris to reduce ocean pollution and protect marine ecosystems.
 
Her dedication to service, leadership, and community engagement has allowed Phillips to contribute meaningfully to various causes, fostering positive change and support for those in need at CSUSM and the community.
 
This was the second consecutive season a volleyball student-athlete has been voted as the CCAA Impact Award recipient. It is the first time there has been a repeat sports winner.
 
Criteria student-athletes must meet to be eligible for the Impact award are:
     • Shall be a current student-athlete at a member institution
     • Shall be academically and athletically eligible and in good academic standing according to NCAA, CCAA, and institutional regulations
     • Shall have used a season of competition for the year the student-athlete is being nominated
    • Participates in community service/engagement activities as a member of their team
    • Participates in community service/engagement activities outside of team activities
    • Participates in or demonstrates activities that exemplify leadership
