Weaver Wins CSUSM Fujikura Invitational

COURSE REPORT:
The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team finished runner-up at its home tournament, the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, carding a 3-over 867 (298-282-287) across three rounds that concluded Tuesday at Shadowridge Golf Club. Liam Weaver led wire-to-wire for medalist honors at 10-under 206 on the par-72 layout.

FIRST TEE

  • Weaver paced the Cougars with a 10-under 206 (71–67–68) and 15 birdies, capturing the individual title by seven shots over Chico State's Naoki Easterday and Denby Carswell of Simon Fraser at 213 (–3).
  • Gavin McCormick notched a top-five finish, tying for fourth at 1-under 215 (74–70–71) with 12 birdies; he also co-led the field in par-5 scoring at 7-under.
  • Kai Miyata posted a steady final-round even-par 72 to tie for 22nd at 4-over 220 (75–73–72) with 36 pars for the week.
  • Julian Gay contributed an eagle to the team ledger and finished 69th at 24-over 240 (78–80–82).
  • Aiden Canada recorded 148 through two rounds (72–76) before withdrawing; he also tallied an eagle.
  • Competing as individuals, Aaron Arch tied for seventh at even-par 216 (73–70–73) and led the entire field with 16 birdies; Nick Mouser tied for 13th at 1-over 217 (74–69–74); Johnny Sprague tied for 22nd at 4-over 220 (71–77–72); Jack Main finished 51st at 12-over 228 (78–69–81).

INSIDE THE SCORECARD

  • Western Washington captured the team title at even-par 864, edging CSUSM by three shots.
  • CSUSM's Liam Weaver was the medalist at 206 (–10). His 3.77 scoring average on par 4s led the field, cumulatively at 7-under.
  • Weaver joins Greg Mouser (2024) and Dale Smith (2016) as the only Cougars to win the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational. 
  • Birdies: CSUSM's Aaron Arch led all players with 16 birdies; Liam Weaver followed closely with 15, and Gavin McCormick added 12.
  • Eagles: CSUSM's Aiden Canada and Julian Gay each recorded an eagle. Carson Diaz (Stanislaus State) and Kobe Trujillo (CSUDH) each tallied two eagles in the 54-hole event.
