Cougars Post 1-0 Shutout at Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (1-1-0) earned its first win of 2024 with a 1-0 shutout at Westmont (0-2-0) on Saturday morning at Thorington Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a corner kick from the left side that went off a head and was stopped by a Westmont defender in the box, Paulson poked the ball into the bottom of the net for the game's lone goal in the 16th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • CSUSM kept its 1-0 lead at the half despite being outshot 6-4.
  • The Warriors came out firing in the second half with nine shots to the Cougars' three, but CSUSM held firm and posted the shutout.

  • Westmont had more shots than CSUSM at 15-4, but the Cougars had the advantage in shots on goal at 5-4.
  • The Cougars had more corner kicks than the Warriors (4-3).
  • Paulson's goal was the third of her career.
  • CSUSM increased its lead in the all-time series to 5-2-1 while recording its first win at Westmont since 2008.
  • This was the second consecutive shutout against Westmont as CSUSM dealt the Warriors a 5-0 shutout in 2023.
