Late Goal Sees Cougars Take 1-1 Draw Against Golden Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – A late equalizing goal gave the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (1-0-2) a 1-1 draw against Concordia University Irvine (1-1-1) on Saturday night at Golden Eagles Field.

CUI – 69' Elle Soleau (Unassisted)
CSUSM – 84' Addison Leite (Unassisted)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, CUI had a 3-2 edge in shots while both of CSUSM's shots were on goal.
  • The Golden Eagles broke up the shutout in the 69th minute as Elle Soleau took a shot from the top left corner of the box and into the left side of the goal to give CUI a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 84th minute, Addison Leite scored the equalizer for CSUSM. Outside the top of the box, Leite put a high shot into the top left corner of the net to make it a 1-1 game for her second goal of the year.

  • CSUSM was outshot 16-5, but both teams put four shots on goal.
  • CUI lead the way in corner kicks at 8-1.
  • The Golden Eagles controlled the ball for 68% of the contest while the Cougars' possessions were in CUI territory 56% of the time.
  • This was the second consecutive draw between the Cougars and Golden Eagles after a scoreless game in San Marcos last season. This was the sixth tie overall in the all-time series.
