Cougars Fall in Straight Sets at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (3-15, 2-8 CCAA) dropped a three-set match (12-25, 11-25, 18-25) to Cal State San Bernardino (13-4, 8-2 CCAA) on Saturday evening at Coussoulis Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SET 1: CSUSB opened the match with a 6-0 run behind McKenna Edwards' serving and never looked back. The Cougars responded with a 5-1 run to close the gap to 8-7, but a dominant serving stretch from Abbey Clarke, including four aces, extended the Coyotes' lead to 19-7. CSUSB closed the set 25-12 with a kill from Kisa Sagiao.
  • SET 2: The Coyotes jumped out to a 12-0 lead, fueled by four kills from Sagiao and two from Sarai Ross. CSUSM broke the run with a kill from Nelia Trower, but CSUSB maintained control with a balanced attack and took the set 25-11.
  • SET 3: CSUSM showed resilience early, taking a 3-1 lead after a block and ace from Trower. CSUSB responded with a 6-0 run, including two kills from Kacie Pedersen and two aces from Jordan Cherniss. The Cougars cut the deficit to 14-11 after kills from Rachel Blankenship and Adison Kranz, but CSUSB pulled away late to win 25-18.
