SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (1-14, 1-8 CCAA) earned its first win of the season with a 70-60 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt (5-11, 4-6 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An old-fashioned 3-point play by Hetrick put CSUSM up 12-8 at 5:56 of the first quarter.
- CSUSM held a 23-20 lead over the Jacks following the first quarter.
- The Cougars took their largest lead of the first half on a baseline drive by Hetrick to make it 35-28 with 1:13 remaining.
- CSUSM took a 37-30 lead into the halftime break after shooting 58.3% (14-of-24) to Humboldt's 44.4% (12-of-27).
- The Cougars led in rebounds (15-13) and had few turnovers (5-9) in the first 20 minutes.
- Following a Lumberjack shot-clock violation, Morse sunk a 3-pointer to give CSUSM's its first double-digit lead of the game at 45-34 with 4:26 left in the third quarter.
- On her second 3-pointer of the day, Morse put CSUSM up 52-36 with 2:03 on the clock in the third quarter.
- CSUSM led the entire fourth quarter, taking its biggest lead of the game at 8:49 on a Tatum Tamashiro 3-pointer that made it 60-41.
FAST BREAKS
- This was Cougar head coach Jana Pearson's first career win.
- CSUSM shot a season-best 50% (27-of-54) while holding the Jacks to 45.7% (21-of-46).
- The Cougars won the battle of the boards, 32-24.
- CSUSM got 18 points from its bench to Humboldt's 10.
- The Cougars also led in assists (12-7), made 3-pointers (9-6), steals (16-10) and blocked shots (3-2).
- CSUSM scored 19 points on Humboldt's 23 turnovers.
- The Cougars extended their win streak over the Jacks to eight games and are now 12-5 in the all-time series against Humboldt.

The Cougars will begin a four-game road trip next week, beginning with a stop at Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
