Cougars Fall 2-0 to No. 2 Broncos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (5-3-3, 2-2 CCAA) fell 2-0 to No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona (10-0-1, 3-0-1 CCAA) on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, the Broncos had the advantage in shots (4-1), shots on goal (1-0) and corner kicks (3-2).
  • The draw was broken up in the 59th minute. The Broncos' Vanessa Cruz curved a high free kick into the upper right corner of the goal to give CPP a 1-0 lead.
  • CPP went up 2-0 in the 83rd minute with a penalty kick goal by Angelina Rivas into the bottom left corner of the net.

  • CPP ended the game with the edge in shots (7-3), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (5-4).
  • Danielle Paulson had CSUSM's lone shot on goal.
  • This was CSUSM's third game against a Top 25 opponent this season after previously facing then-No. 1 Point Loma (L, 2-1) and then-No. 12 Concordia University Irvine (T, 0-0) in non-conference play.
