SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The (RV) Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (3-1-3) will finish its three-game road trip as it opens CCAA play in Rohnert Park at Sonoma State (2-2-3) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. before heading north to Cal Poly Humboldt (3-3-1) for a 2 p.m. match on Sunday in Arcata.
 
LAST WEEK

• CSUSM wrapped up non-conference play on Wednesday and Sunday at home against No. 12 Concordia University Irvine and on the road at Cal State East Bay.
• At home against the Golden Eagles, CSUSM battled No. 12 CUI to a scoreless draw while keeper Allison Marcure made a season-high five saves.
• At East Bay, the Cougars ended their second consecutive draw with a 2-2 tie after the Pioneers matched CSUSM's goals by Danielle Paulson and Isabelle Walsh.

• CSUSM once again received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.
• Kayla Knoob has the best shot accuracy in the CCAA at .667 while putting the third-most shots on goal per game at 1.43.
• Knoob ranks second in the league for points per game (1.43) and total points (10) while ranking third in goals (4) and goals per game (0.57).
• CSUSM is on a six-game unbeaten streak after suffering its lone loss of the season in the season opener against then-No. 1 Point Loma. The streak is tied for the second-longest in the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present).

CCAA OPENER AT SSU

• The Seawolves closed non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday.
• SSU didn't take a loss at home during non-conference play, going 2-0-2.
• Julia Betti leads SSU with two goals and four points.
• Keeper Ariana Beddoes has made a conference-leading 32 saves this season while allowing 11 goals.
• The Seawolves are taking the third-most corner kicks per game at 5.00.
• SSU is allowing the second-most goals in the CCAA at 1.571 per game while its scoring offense ranks eighth at 1.00 goals per game.
• The Seawolves have the third-worst shot accuracy in the conference at .411.
• In six meetings with SSU, CSUSM has never beaten the Seawolves. SSU owns the all-time series lead at 4-0-2.
• The Cougars and Seawolves have posted 1-1 and 0-0 draws the past two seasons.

SUNDAY IN ARCATA

• Prior to facing CSUSM, Humboldt will take on Cal State Easy Bay on Friday afternoon.
• The Lumberjacks went 3-3-1 in non-conference play while going 1-2-0 at home, beating Jessup for its lone home win.
• Humboldt took a 1-1 draw in its final non-conference game this past Saturday,
• Frida Duran Arellano leads the Lumberjacks with six points and two assists while tying teammate Mari Ige for the team lead in goals with two.
• Humboldt has the worst team save percentage in the CCAA at .679 while allowing the seventh-most goals per game at 1.286 and scoring the sixth-most goals at 1.14 per game.
• The Lumberjacks are taking 11.86 shots per game while putting 5.43 on goal.
• CSUSM is 3-1-4 in the all-time series against Humboldt and is 1-0-2 when playing in Arcata.
• Last season, the Cougars came away with a 1-0 win over the Lumberjacks on San Marcos.
• This will be CSUSM's first visit to Arcata since 2021 and just the second time since 2017.

2024 OUTLOOK

• After a historic 2023 season, CSUSM was just barely picked to finish second in 2024 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, finishing one point behind Cal Poly Pomona.
• The Cougars' roster of 32 includes 22 returners and 10 newcomers who are all freshmen.
• Returners Natalia Huntington, Nani Kia'aina, Allison Marcure and Natalie Paulson were named to the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer Watchlist after earning first or second-team All-CCAA honors in 2023 or were voted to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.
• Natalie Paulson was the 2023 CCAA Player and Defender of the Year and went on to earn All-America first-team and All-Region honors.
• Of CSUSM's 32 goals scored in 2023, 28 of them were scored by 2024 returners.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

• Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his 11th year in charge of the women's program and 19th overall at CSUSM.
• Renneisen coached the Cougars to their first CCAA Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023 with an 11-3-6 (6-0-5 CCAA) record while finishing second in the CCAA standings.
• Renneisen and his assistant coaches were named the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II West Region Staff of the Year.
• Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
• Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
• As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 67-53-44 (.543) for his career with the Cougars.
