POMONA, Calif. – In its final road game of the regular season, the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (6-5-4, 3-4-2 CCAA) fell 2-1 to No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona (13-1-2, 6-1-2 CCAA) on Friday night at Kellogg Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Broncos scored almost right out of the gate in the fourth minute. Off a corner kick from Vanessa Cruz on the right side, Braedyn Kincade received the ball with her head on the left corner of the six-yard box and headed the ball over to Angelina Rivas near the right post. Rivas then headed the ball into the right side of the goal to give CPP an early 1-0 lead.
  • After 45 minutes of play, CPP had the edge in shots (9-1), shots on goal (2-0) and corner kicks (5-1).
  • CSUSM finally evened the game at 1-1 in the 74th minute. Addison Leite intercepted a deflected CPP pass at midfield and took off down the center of the field before putting a lob shot over the keeper's head from the top of the box and into the center of the goal.
  • After a Cougar foul in the right side of the box, Cruz put a penalty kick into the bottom right corner of the goal to give the Broncos the lead once again at 2-1.

  • Despite being outshot 9-4 in the second half, the Broncos ended the game with a lead in shots (13-10), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (7-1).
