SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos men's soccer (0-3-2) struck first but could not overcome playing nearly the entire match down a man, falling 2-1 at Westmont (3-1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Thorrington Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just over three minutes in, CSUSM opened the scoring when Jesua Espinoza Castillo set up Andrew Valencia on a corner kick, who headed in his first CSUSM goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
- In the 9th minute, momentum swung dramatically as CSUSM defender Brando Oros was sent off with a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. On the ensuing free kick, Westmont's Erik Guerrero equalized with a strike from outside the top of the box that was deflected into the left side of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
- In the 66th minute, Westmont found the eventual game-winner when Serkan Durna converted on a pass up the middle from Cash Anderholt to make it a 2-1 game.
QUICK KICKS
- CSUSM had the edge in shots at 14-13 while Westmont had the edge in shots on goal at 3-2.
- The Warriors took seven corner kicks to the Cougars' three.
- Espinoza Castillo and Efren Nunez Dominguez each led CSUSM with three shots each.
