CSUSM Drops 3-1 Decision to No. 16 CSUDH

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (4-6-3, 3-3 CCAA) suffered a 3-1 defeat to No. 16 Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-2-3, 6-0-1 CCAA) on Friday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a CSUSM foul in the box, Diego Barahona put a penalty kick off the left post before the ball ricocheted into the right corner of the goal to give the Toros a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
  • The Cougars evened the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute as Blake Haseyama dribbled into the box from the left side and skirted past one defender before taking a shot left of the penalty marker and into the left side of the goal.
  • After a long throw-in went off multiple heads in the box, David Politron took possession with a one-touch pass to his left to Christian Briseno, who put a shot into the back of the net from six yards out to give CSUDH a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
  • Another Cougar foul in the box allowed a Toro penalty kick in the 80th minute as Lucas Galarza put a shot into the left side of the net to make it a two-goal game.

 
QUICK KICKS

  • CSUSM ended the game with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but CSUDH led in shots (10-8) and shots on goal (5-3).
  • The Cougars controlled possession for 55% of the game, with 73% of their possessions occurring in Toro territory.
  • Haseyama's goal was his second of the season.
  • Remaining at nine points, CSUSM is now in a three-way tie for fourth in the CCAA standings.
