CSUSM Drops Close One in CCAA Opener at SSU, 58-55
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-6, 0-1 CCAA) fell 58-55 to Sonoma State (3-4, 1-0 CCAA) in its CCAA opener on Saturday afternoon in The Wolves' Den.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Hetrick layup got things started for the Cougars in the opening minute against the Seawolves.
- The Cougars trailed 14-12 following the first quarter with Hetrick leading all scorers with six points.
- CSUSM shot 50% (5-of-10) in the first 10 minutes while the Seawolves turned in a 26.3% (5-of-19) performance.
- Both teams scored only two points in the first five minutes of the second quarter.
- The score was knotted at 21-all at halftime with CSUSM shooting 29.2% (7-of-24) and SSU coming in at 20% (7-of-35).
- CSUSM took its first lead since the end of the second quarter on a Bobadilla jumper at the 6:08 mark of the third quarter to make it 26-24.
- The Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 33-28 on a Kaitlyn Beall layup at 2:42 in the third quarter.
- A Jayme Blackard buzzer-beater to end the third quarter put SSU up 38-36.
- A Tatum Tamashiro 3-pointer from the top of the key put CSUSM back on top at 41-40 with 8:47 remaining in the game.
- The Seawolves went up 46-41 on a pair of made free throws by Alysa Lopez at the 6:32 mark of the fourth quarter.
- A floating jumper by Lopez put SSU up 54-49 with 51 seconds remaining.
- CSUSM answered with a Bobadilla layup at the 41-second mark to make it 54-51.
- A pair of made free throws by Blackard gave SSU back a five-point lead at 56-51 with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
- An Okonkwo hook shot cut the SSU lead to 56-53 with 22 seconds on the clock.
- Both teams sunk their two free throw opportunities to close the game out at 58-55.
FAST BREAKS
- For the first time this season, CSUSM recorded a higher shooting percentage than its opponent by shooting 36.2% (21-of-58) while holding SSU to just 29.2% (19-of-65).
- The contest had 15 lead changes and eight ties with the Seawolves leading for 21:08 and CSUSM for 13:11.
- SSU had the edge in rebounds at 45-39 while tallying 21 boards on the offensive side to CSUSM's 15.
- The Cougars dished out a season-best 11 assists to SSU's 15.
- The Seawolves got 32 points from their bench while CSUSM's bench contributed 12 points.
- Destiny Okonkwo notched her first double-double as a Cougar with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
- CSUSM is 12-6 in the all-time series against SSU and 5-4 when playing in the Wolves' Den.
