Brady Bergeson Named CSUSM Head Men's Basketball Coach

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball program has a new leader as Brady Bergeson was named the Cougars' next head coach on Monday morning.

"We are very excited to welcome Brady Bergeson into our Cougar Family as the next CSUSM head men's basketball coach," CSUSM Director of Athletics Morod Shah said. "Coach Bergeson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with a successful track record as a Division II head coach. Brady's programs are built to win on the court, in the classroom and in the community. I look forward to this next chapter of CSUSM men's basketball with Brady as our coach."

Bergeson comes to CSUSM from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, where he was the Rangers' head coach since 2015. In his time there, Bergeson tallied a 164-121 record (.575) with two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, eight RMAC Tournament appearances, one RMAC Tournament Championship and four 20-win seasons.

"I am excited for the opportunity to join forces with Cal State San Marcos Athletics and represent the University as the next head men's basketball coach," Bergeson said. "I will do everything in my power to lead this group through the challenges ahead. I am very thankful to Morod Shah and his staff for giving me this opportunity."

Prior to Regis, Bergeson's first stop as a head coach was at Western Oregon from 2011 to 2015, posting a 69-45 record (.605). In his final season there in 2014-15, Bergeson led the Wolves to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and GNAC Conference Championship while being named the GNAC Coach of the Year.

Before becoming a head coach, Bergeson was an assistant coach at Sacramento State (2008-11) and Metro State (2002-08). In his time at Metro State, he helped coach the Roadrunners to five NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, including the Final Four in 2004 and the Elite Eight in 2005.

Bergeson graduated with honors from Chapman University in 2000, earning a bachelor's in Psychology while being a four-year varsity point guard, team captain and Student-Athlete of the Year for the Panthers. Bergeson later earned his master's in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2007.

Bergeson and his wife Brooke have three children: Dash, Pilot and Clutch.
