Murr Named CCAA Golfer of the Year, Hutton Selected CCAA Coach of the Year, Five Cougars Earn All-CCAA Honors
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team was once again well represented on the All-CCAA teams. Madison Murr nabbed CCAA Golfer of the Year and head Coach Greg Hutton received his sixth consecutive CCAA Women's Golf Coach of the Year honor.
Joining Murr on the 10-person All-CCAA first team was the 2024 CCAA Tournament Champion Regan Barton, Makenna Cabardo and Diana Delgado. Lauren Hickam received honorable mention honors.
Murr, who is ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II according to Scoreboard powered by clippd, has a team-best 71.4 stroke average. The Los Alamitos native won four tournaments this season and finished in the top five in eight of the nine tournaments CSUSM played. Murr accumulated four CCAA Golf of the Week honors this season to raise her career total to seven, the third most in conference program history behind 2019 NCAA Division II Champion Jaime Jacob (13) and former teammate Breann Horn (8). This marks Murr's third consecutive time earning all-conference first team honors.
Barton's win last week at the conference championships was her first in her collegiate career. Her best finish going into the tournament was 11th place at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational to begin the 2023-24 season. This was Barton's first postseason CCAA honor.
Cabardo posted four top-10 finishes this season, including two third-place finishes at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational and The Patriot Invitational at Poppy Hills. The Scottsdale, Arizona native placed sixth at the CCAA Championship last week. This is her second first-team honor and her third overall postseason conference honor (honorable mention in 2023).
Delgado earned four top-five finished this season, collecting runner-up honors at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Tournament. She picked up third-place honors at the CCAA Championships. This is her second team being named to the All-CCAA first team.
Hickam had three top-10 finishes this season, including a third-place finish at the Nick Turner Invitational which garnered her CCAA Golfer of the Week honors.
Hutton became CSUSM's first seven-time CCAA Coach of the Year honoree in school history, six times as the women's coach and one time as the men's coach. The Cougars defended their league crown for the fifth time by a record-breaking 27 strokes, carding a 1-over 865 in the three-day, 54-hole event.
In the five years of the CCAA sponsoring women's golf, a CSUSM golfer has been named Golfer of the Year each time with Jaime Jacob taking the first three seasons, Horn earning two seasons and Murr capturing this season. The Cougars won six tournaments this season, including the 2024 CCAA Women's Golf Championship for a fifth time.
CSUSM is ranked No. 17 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) national poll and No. 14 on Scoreboard powered by clippd.
The Cougars, who earned the automatic West Regional bid and are ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA West Regional poll, are waiting for the announcement of the West Region field which will be posted on NCAA.com later on today.
This is the fifth consecutive season that CSUSM has placed at least three players on the All-CCAA first team.
