As a teenager, Francisco said he was constantly told he wasn’t smart enough or wealthy enough to attend college. Rather than discourage him, it fueled a desire to pursue an education and help his family. Twenty years ago, CSUSM unveiled its first outdoor public art – a bronze statue of civil rights activist César Chávez. At the time, the statue seemed far from the original four university buildings. But the César Chávez statue came to not only reflect the heart of CSUSM, it became the center of campus.

With over 100 interactive and hands-on activities, thousands of science enthusiasts of all ages explored the fun and wonder of science at Super STEM Saturday on March 10, 2018.The annual science festival is held at CSUSM in partnership with The Classical Academies, and concluded the 10-day San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, the largest celebration of innovation and science education in Southern California.
