SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Rasha Badrani of women's track & field and Dre Johnson of men's track & field have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for March 2025.
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Badrani won the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship in the 400-meter dash, matching her program record. She became the program's first NCAA National Champion and second in CSUSM Athletics history. Badrani went on to be named the NCAA Division II West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA and was a first-team All-American. She began the outdoor season with two NCAA provisionals in the 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles at the Mangrum Invitational and broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash at 54.67 seconds. Badrani was subsequently named the FloCollege/CCAA Track Athlete of the Week.
Johnson broke two school records at the Mangrum Invitational. The sophomore helped break the 15-year-old school record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.20 seconds - .49 faster than the previous mark set in 2010. Johnson then broke his own school record in the 100-meter dash at 10.58 seconds - .04 better than the record her set last season.
This is the second consecutive Student-Athlete of the Month honor and third overall for Badrani and is the first award for Johnson.
