Badrani, Laiwa-McKay Selected for NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams will be represented at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships as Rasha Badrani and Kalathan Laiwa-McKay were selected to compete by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee on Tuesday.

Badrani will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles for the third consecutive year as she posted the nation's top time with a school record 57.79 seconds at the Triton Invitational in early April. Last year, Badrani took seventh in the event and earned All-America first-team honors. Earlier this year in indoor action, Badrani won the national championship in the 400-meter dash.

Laiwa-McKay qualified in the shot put as he recorded a school-record mark of 18.25 meters at this past weekend's Franson Last Chance, ranking seventh in Division II this season. Laiwa-McKay is just the second Cougar from the men's track & field team to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships and will be the program's first field athlete in the meet.

Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. For each individual event contested, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted, and for the heptathlon and decathlon the top 16 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition

This year's championships will be held at Colorado State Pueblo's ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado, on May 22-24.
