Early Goals Lead to CSUSM's 1-1 Tie with No. 9 PLNU

SAN DIEGO – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer (1-0-1) battled to a 1-1 draw against Point Loma (0-1-1) on Saturday afternoon at PLNU Soccer Field, maintaining their unbeaten start to the 2025 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Point Loma struck first in the seventh minute when Priya Torres headed in a corner kick from Kylie Garcia to the bottom left corner.
  • CSUSM responded instantly off the restart, as Danielle Paulson launched a long-range shot that the PLNU goalkeeper could only deflect upward before it crossed the goal line.
  • In the second half, CSUSM generated five shots, including a near miss from Brianna Delgado in the 78th minute that forced a diving save.
  • Cougar goalkeeper Emma Calvillo made two key saves in the second half to preserve the draw.
