Slow Start Hampers CSUSM at SF State

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO  – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-11, 0-5 CCAA) dropped a 71-65 decision at San Francisco State (4-7, 2-4 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon in The Swamp.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Gators took a quick 9-0 lead before a Tamashiro driving layup put CSUSM on the board at the 6:16 mark in the first quarter.
  • A pair of Morse made free throws cut the gap to 11-6 at the 3:34 mark.
  • SF State closed out the first quarter with a 10-2 run to make it 21-8.
  • The Cougars outscored the Gators 15-13 in the second quarter but still trailed 34-23 at the halftime break.
  • CSUSM had a slight edge in rebounds in the first half at 16-15 with eight coming on the offensive side.
  • The Gators shot 58.3% (14-of-24) to CSUSM's 30.0% (9-of-30).
  • SF State took its largest lead of the game at 2:30 in the third quarter on a Sage Bridges-Bey 3-pointer to make it 50-32.
  • A Tamashiro 3-pointer at the 1:29 mark of the fourth quarter closed the deficit to 65-59.
  • CSUSM shot 53.8% (7-of-13) from the field, 71.4% (5-of-7) from the arc and 100% (6-of-6) from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to SF State's 30.0 (4-of-13) field-goal percentage, 0.0 (0-of-1) 3-point field-goal percentage and 66.7 (8-of-12) free-throw percentage.

FAST BREAKS

  • CSUSM got 24 points from its bench with Tamashiro leading the way with a career-high 17 points.
  • The Cougars shot 41.1% (23-of-56) from the field while the Gators recorded 52.9% (27-of-51).
  • CSUSM went 9-of-10 (90%) at the free throw line.
  • Both teams tallied 22 turnovers, 13 assists and 1 blocked shot in the contest.
