SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (33-10, 19-9 CCAA) will conclude its 10-game homestand on Tuesday in a 12 p.m non-conference doubleheader against RV Concordia University Irvine (30-11, 20-8 PacWest) before resuming CCAA play at Cal State Dominguez Hill (27-20, 14-14 CCAA) this weekend. The doubleheaders in Carson will be at 1 p.m. on Friday followed by a 12 p.m. start time on Saturday. 

LAST TIME OUT

•  The Cougars collected their third CCAA series sweep of the season, taking four games from Cal State San Bernardino last weekend. 
• Jayline Sloss recorded her third consecutive shutout (6-0) in the series opener on Friday before a the Cougars held on to a 5-4 victory in the nightcap. 
• On Saturday, CSUSM snatched 6-2 and 5-1 wins over the Coyotes.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

• With the NFCA Division II Coaches Poll being posted weekly on Tuesday, the Cougars remain at No. 18 in the nation. Also appearing from the West Region are No. 11 Western Washington, No. 13 Cal State East Bay and No. 21 San Francisco State. Concordia University Irvine dropped out last week and is now receiving votes. 
• With the CSUSB series sweep, CSUSM (19-9) is one game back from leader Cal State East Bay (20-8) who split its series at San Francisco State this past weekend. 
• CSUSM stayed in the top spot in the CCAA with a .317 batting average. 
• The Cougars jumped from third to the top spot in scoring runs in the CCAA, averaging 5.14 per game.
• CSUSM has drawn a conference-high 127 walks this season. 
• The Cougars remain at No. 2 in the conference in on-base percentage (.386) and slugging percentage (.421). 
• CSUSM ranks second in the CCAA with 14 sacrifice flies this season. 
• CSUSM ranks 11th in NCAA Division II (third in the CCAA) with 21 double plays. 
• The Cougars have the second-best fielding percentage in the CCAA at .967. 
•  CSUSM's 181 RBIs and 4.21 RBIs per game rank second in the league. 
• The Cougars have tallied 17 home runs, averaging 0.40 per game and ranking fifth in the CCAA. 
• CSUSM has registered 366 hits this season, ranking second in the CCAA. 
• The Cougar pitching staff has held conference opponents to a CCAA-low 21 doubles and two triples in 184.2 innings while striking out 105 batters with 34 looking (second in CCAA). 
• Two Cougars are ranked in the top 10 in the CCAA in batting average – Jillian Albayati is in fourth (.412), followed by Paige Donnelly in ninth (.370).
• Albayati ranks seventh in the nation with 2.82 assists per game. 
• Coyle is ranked 13th in Division II with fourth saves. 
• Donnelly's 31 RBIs rank seventh in the CCAA. 
• Jayline Sloss took sole possession of second place in the CCAA with 29 strikeouts looking.
• Madison Waymire ranks fourth in the conference with 35 runs and fifth with five home runs. 
• Three Cougars are in the top 10 in on-base percentage in the CCAA with Albayati in fourth (.462),Donnelly in ninth (.444) and Coyle in 10th (.439).

MIDWEEK AGAINST CUI

• The Golden Eagles have won four of their last 10 games, dropping a four-game series to Jessup before splitting a series 2-2 with Dominican and a doubleheader with Azusa Pacific. 
• Against APU, CUI dropped game one 12-5 before bouncing back with a 4-1 win. 
• This will be the Golden Eagles' first road games in the month of April.
• CUI is batting .302 (third best in PacWest) while leading the league with a 1.70 ERA. 
• The Golden Eagles are averaging a PacWest-high 1.44 doubles and 0.54 home runs per game. 
• CUI also leads the league in on-base percentage (.373), RBIs per game (4.56), scoring (4.93) and slugging percentage (.437). 
• The Golden Eagles are second in the PacWest Conference standings, three games back from leader Biola (24-6). 
• Three Golden Eagles' ERAs are ranked in the top four spots in the PacWest with CUI ace Kacie Gossett on top with a 1.18 ERA (10th in Division II), followed by Bella Calvo with a 1.40 (2nd) and Jayden Nishi with a 1.69 (4th). 
• Kayla Rodgers is leading the PacWest with 42 runs and 1.05 runs per game while ranking second with 17 stolen bases.  
• Despite being 14-24 in the all-time series against CUI, the Cougars have won five of the last eight meetings between the two teams, including a pair of wins (9-0, 4-3) in the 2023 NCAA Division II West Super Regional in Irvine. 
• In 2024, CSUSM split the series by taking game one 13-3 in nine innings before falling 3-0. 
• The Golden Eagles were picked to finish first in the 2025 PacWest Softball Preseason Coaches Poll. 

COUGARS VS. THE TOROS

• Cal State Dominguez Hills is coming off a series loss at Sonoma State this past weekend – snapping a three-series win streak with a sweep over Stanislaus State and 3-1 wins over Cal Poly Humboldt and San Francisco State. 
• The Toros won game one of the series 3-2 before falling 7-2, 3-1 and 2-1 to the Seawolves. 
• CSUDH has been climbing up the standings and is currently in fifth place, one game ahead of sixth-place Cal Poly Humboldt and one game behind fourth-place Sonoma State. 
• The Toros rank sixth in the conference in ERA (3.02) and seventh in batting average (.280). 
• CSUDH has the best fielding percentage in the conference at .972. 
• The Toros' 26 home runs are the most in the league. 
• Ashley Ogata's 37 starts, 42 appearances and 151.2 innings pitched is the highest in the CCAA. 
• Alexis Aguado and Jay Ross are 1-2 in runs with 44 and 38, respectively. 
• In their last meeting, the Cougars defeated the Toros 5-2 in their 2025 CCAA Tournament opener held at CSUSM Softball Field. 
• CSUSM holds a 21-20 lead in the all-time series and has won six of the last eight meetings.

2025 OUTLOOK

• CSUSM was picked to finish first in the 2025 CCAA Preseason Softball Coaches Poll. 
• The Cougars' roster of 26 consists of 17 returners, one transfer and eight freshman. 
• Athletically, the Cougars are made up of four redshirt seniors, six seniors, three juniors, five sophomores and eight freshman. 
• The Cougars' 53-game schedule includes 28 home contests and 25 road games.

• Head Coach A.J. Robinson was promoted to the top spot on July 31, 2024. 
• As the program's assistant coach from 2022-24, Robinson helped guide CSUSM to three NCAA Division II West Regional appearances, an NCAA National Championship appearance, a West Regional Championship, a CCAA Regular-Season Championship and a CCAA Tournament Championship.
• For the 2021 season, Robinson was a volunteer assistant coach at San Diego State and helped the Aztecs to an overall record of 28-16.
• Robinson's first stint at CSUSM was as a volunteer assistant coach from 2018-20 where he was named CSUSM Athletics' Volunteer Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.
• Robinson was the founder and president of The Factory Softball Club in San Diego until 2024. In 2018 and 2019, he and his coaching staff earned West Region Travel Ball Coaching Staff of the Year honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
