SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (33-12) dropped both ends of Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader to Concordia University Irvine (32-10) at CSUSM Softball Field by scores of 4-1 and 6-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Kayla Rodgers RBI single up the middle that plated Gabby Villa, who was granted first after being hit by a pitch.
- A two-out blooper to left by Makenzie Guiliano scored Mackenzie Kestler from second to even the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the fifth on a RBI double by Rodgers and on a CSUSM error.

- CSUSM pitcher Savannah Coyle (10-5) picked up the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk in 5.0 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, capitalizing on two CUI throwing errors.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth after Gianna Lombardi led off with a double to right center, was relieved by pinch runner Hannah Tandy who scored on a Paige Donnelly sacrifice fly to center field.
- With two outs on the board, the Golden Eagles scored six runs on three singles, three CSUSM errors and a hit batter in the sixth inning.
- CSUSM closed the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth on a Lombardi RBI double down the third-base line and a bases loaded hit batter.
- CSUSM continued the comeback in the bottom of the seventh by scoring a run on another CUI error, but the Golden Eagles closed out the game with a groundout.

- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (14-5) took the loss after going 5.2 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits, four walks while striking out six batters.
- CUI pitcher Kacie Gossett (10-1) notched the win after allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits and three hit batters while striking out four.
