Cougars Unable to Overcome First-Half Deficit Against Gators
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (4-2-3, 1-1-1 CCAA) was unable to overcome two first-half goals by San Francisco State (1-7-2, 1-2-0 CCAA) as it fell 2-1 in its CCAA home opener on Friday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators struck first near the end of the 21st minute. A forward midfield pass from Serrena Brito to Kiralyn Kuramoto was shot on the first touch from 20 yards in front of the box and sailed over the keeper's head into the left side of the net to make it a 1-0 game.
- SF State made it 2-0 in the 35th minute as Emily Gehrlein-Allen won a contested battle for the ball after a headed pass. Gehrlein-Allen then took a shot from just outside the top left corner of the box and sailed the ball over the keeper's head into the center of the goal.
- Down 2-0 after 45 minutes, CSUSM led the half in shots at 9-2 and shots on goal at 4-2. Both teams had one corner kick for the period.
- CSUSM broke up the shutout in the 75th minute. Charlotte Leite made a midfield pass to Natalia Huntington on the right side, who danced around the defender before serving up a cross to the head of Addison Leite, who put the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal and cut the deficit to 2-1.

- CSUSM heavily outshot the Gators at 23-3 while putting 12 shots on goal to SF State's three, posting a season high in both categories.
- The Cougars also won the corner kick battle with a season-best 10, while the Gators had three.
- CSUSM controlled possession for 59% of the match and had the ball in SF State territory for 82% of its possessions.
- Brittany Brown led the game with six shots while Addison Leite had five with a match-high three on goal.
- This was the Cougars' first loss to the Gators since 2018, while CSUSM continues to lead the all-time series at 5-4-3.
