No. 25 CSUSM Falls Twice to No. 13 CSUEB on Senior Day
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 25 Cal State San Marcos softball team (35-17, 21-14) CCAA) dropped both ends of its Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday to No. 13 Cal State East Bay (37-11, 25-10 CCAA) by scores of 5-4 and 7-1.
Following the twinbill, CSUSM honored its 10 seniors – Aneesa Arredondo, Savannah Coyle, Paige Donnelly, Dahlia Fink, Makenzie Guiliano, Mackenzie Kestler, Gianna Lombardi, Delaney Prater, Jayline Sloss and Madison Waymire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Madison Waymire led off with a single in the first, Paige Donnelly hit a two-run homer to dead center to put CSUSM up 2-0.
- The Pioneers evened the game at 2-all on back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Annelise Garcia and Alexia Zumstein.
- East Bay took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on a CSUSM error.
- A solo home run by Garcia extended the Pioneer lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth.
- CSUSM evened the game once again at 4-all on a two-out 2-RBI single by Aneesa Arredondo in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the top of the seventh, Marissa Farias hit an RBI double to right to put East Bay up 5-4.
- CSUSM got back-to-back, one-out singles from Makenzie Guiliano and Waymire, but the Pioneers ended the rally on a double play.

- CSUEB pitcher Marissa Quintero (17-3) entered the game in relief to earn the win after throwing two shutout innings on three hits and two walks.
- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (15-8) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and four walks while striking out five in a complete-game outing.
- Madison Waymire extended her streak of reaching base safely to a team's season-high 23 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUEB put up three runs in the first frame on an Annelise Garcia RBI double and a two-run homer by Alexa Zumstein.
- A bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning raised the Pioneers' lead to 4-0.
- The Pioneers added two more runs in the fifth to make it 6-0. After leading off the inning with a single, Jeslyn Cuellar scored on three consecutive wild pitches. Evyn Morriss then followed with an RBI single to left.
- CSUEB's Ysabella Cortez made it 7-0 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to left field.
- The Cougars broke up the shutout by scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-1.

- CSUEB pitcher Marissa Quintero (18-3) picked up the win after going 6.0 innings, giving up one run on six hits and three walks.
- CSUSM pitcher Savannah Coyle (11-7) took the loss after 4.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks.
- Madison Waymire now holds the longest streak of reaching base safely in the NCAA Division II era (2015-present) by extending her streak to 24 games.

The Cougars will look to defend their CCAA tournament title next week, traveling to Sonoma State. CSUSM will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday at noon.
