SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 14/14 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will host the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 6-7 at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, California.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars tied for second at the Pioneer Shootout with a 24-over 312 after rain washed out the final two rounds last Tuesday on the Corica Park South Course in Alameda, California.
- Madison Murr was CSUSM's top golfer with a second place finish.
- Murr captured her second career CCAA Golfer of the Week honor (see below).

CSUSM FUJIKURA
- This is Cougars' fourth consecutive season hosting the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational.
- CSUSM has won the tournament the last two times the Cougars have hosted it.
- In the inaugural tournament, the Cougars placed third in a field that featured nine nationally-ranked team and six from the top 10.
- The 2022 CSUSM Fujikura Invitational medalist was freshman Diana Delgado who led wire-to-wire to capture her first collegiate tournament win with a 1-under 143 (70-73).
- CSUSM collected the team title last year with an 18-over 594, defeating then-No. 1 Lynn by three strokes.
- Shadowridge Golf Club has hosted each of the CSUSM Fujikura Invitationals.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Lynn Pham and Sade Jackson as well as Kansas transfer Caroline Wales.
- Returning for a fifth year, Breann Horn was a member of the 2019 NCAA National Championship Runner-Up team as well as a 2022 WGCA All-American first team honoree.
- The Cougars won their third consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2022, defeating second-place Cal State LA by 18 strokes.
- Then-freshman Makenna Cabardo was named the CCAA Championship Runner-Up after carding a 4-under 68 in the final round.
- CSUSM won four of its eight tournaments in 2021-22 including its own Fujikura Invitational which featured 19 teams from all over the United States.
- The Cougars moved up to No. 14 this week in the first regular-season poll after being ranked No. 15 in the 2022-23 WGCA Coaches Preseason Poll. CSUSM is ranked No. 10 in the latest Golfstat.com National Poll.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 52 tournament victories (29 women/23 men).
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019 and 2022
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
