Cougars Drop Three Straight at No. 23 CSULA

LOS ANGELES – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (7-16, 6-10 CCAA) dropped three sets at No. 23 Cal State LA (19-5, 14-2 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon at University Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Eagles jumped out early in the first set and cruised to a 25-12 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • The second set started off like the first until CSUSM put on the jets with a 12-2 run to even the score at 18-all on an attacking error by CSULA. CSUSM went up 23-21 on a Golden Eagle service error, but CSULA capitalized on the Cougars' attack errors to come out on top with a 26-24 win.
  • CSULA pulled away at the midway mark of the third set to capture a 25-17 victory.
     

QUICK HITS

  • CSUSM was even with CSULA in blocks with both teams collecting seven in the match.
  • The Golden Eagles had an advantage in aces (12-6), kills (42-23), digs (41-25) and assists (37-21).
  • The Cougars are now officially eliminated from the CCAA tournament, marking the first time in program history since CSUSM was eligible in 2017.
  • CSULA clinched a spot in the CCAA Tournament last week and will enter the final weekend with a two-match lead for the conference regular-season title.
