Cougars' Second-Half Surge Falls Short Against No. 1 Point Loma

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (0-1-0) took a 2-1 loss to No. 1 Point Loma (1-0-0) in the season opener on Thursday morning at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the 29th minute, the Sea Lions' Jillian Tubbs delivered the first goal of the season to the bottom left corner of the goal from just in front of the penalty kick marker after a pass from Alana Diaz.
  • At the end of the first half, PLNU had a 1-0 lead after delivering seven shots with three on goal. CSUSM posted two shots with one on goal.
  • The Sea Lions struck again in the 51st minute as Lily Larez put a shot into the bottom left corner from the left side of the box after a pass from Andrea Lozano.
  • CSUSM cut the deficit to 2-1 just seven minutes later. On a corner kick by Natalia Huntington from the left side of the field, Kayla Knoob connected from just in front of the keeper's box and put the ball into the center of the net for her first career goal.
  • The Cougars kept up the pressure for the rest of the half, putting four of five shots on goal, but the Sea Lions were able to hang on for the one-goal victory.
