CSUSM Claims 74-52 Win Over Otters on Senior Day

SAN MARCOS, Calif.  – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (7-19, 7-13 CCAA) completed its second season series sweep with a 74-52 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay (3-23, 0-20 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Prior to the game, CSUSM celebrated Senior Day by honoring Rory Hetrick, Camille Johnson, Rose Morse and Destiny Okonkwo.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cougars held a 19-16 lead following the end of the first quarter.
  • CSUSM took its largest lead of the first half at the 1:01 mark of the second quarter on a 3-pointer by Tatum Tamashiro to make it 39-27.
  • The Cougars took a 39-30 lead into the halftime break despite shooting 37.5% (15-of-40) from the field to CSUMB's 45.8% (11-of-24).
  • The deciding factor of the first half was turnovers as Monterey Bay committed 14 and the Cougars capitalized on them with 16 points.
  • The Cougars led the entire second half, making it a 20-point differential on a 3-pointer by Rose Morse at 64-44 with 5:48 remaining.
  • CSUSM shot 43.8% (14-of-32) in the second half while holding the Otters to 22.7% (5-of-22).  

FAST BREAKS

  • The Cougars finished the night shooting 40.3% (29-of-72) while Monterey Bay came in at 34.8% (16-of-48).
  • CSUSM had a slight edge in rebounds at 37-35 with 15 coming on the offensive side.  
  • Camille Johnson's 12 rebounds were a collegiate career best. 
  • CSUSM was on top for 36:55 while CSUMB had the lead for 2:05.
  • The Cougars collected a season-best 19 steals in the contest while forcing Monterey Bay to commit 26 turnovers.
  • CSUSM led in assists (11-7), 3-pointers (9-3) and blocked shots (5-2) in the contest.
  • Twenty-five of CSUSM's points came from its bench while Monterey Bay only got nine.
  • The Cougars converted 26 points off the Warriors' 26 turnovers while only allowing CSUMB to score six points off CSUSM's 13 turnovers.
  • CSUSM completed the season series sweep after defeating the Otters in overtime, 65-61, on Jan. 23.
  • The Cougars extended their win streak over the Otters to 14 games with the victory.
  • CSUSM holds a 15-2 lead in the all-time series over CSUMB and is 7-0 when playing in The Sports Center.

 
UP NEXT
The Cougars will conclude their 2024-25 campaign next week at Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday and Chico State on Saturday.
