SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (31-10, 17-9 CCAA) collected a doubleheader sweep against Cal State San Bernardino (20-22, 12-14 CCAA) on Friday afternoon at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars got things started in the first inning with an RBI single by Savannah Coyle through the right side that plated Jillian Albayati from second to take a 1-0 lead.
- CSUSM took advantage of two CSUSB errors in the second to score three runs.
- A two-out RBI triple by Czar Fleischman in the third inning put CSUSM up 5-0.
- The Cougars got one more run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Paige Donnelly to snag a 6-0 victory.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (13-4) recorded her third consecutive shutout, tossing a complete game while allowing four hits (no extra-base hits) and two walks while striking out two.
- Coyote pitcher Brooke Blackmon (4-11) took the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks.
- This was the Cougars' fifth shutout of 2025 and fourth in their last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM struck first in the opening inning, scoring four runs on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch by Madison Waymire, a CSUSB error and RBI singles by Makenzie Guiliano and Dahlia Fink.
- In the top of the fourth, CSUSB's Isabella Vengas broke up the shutout with an RBI single to left to make it 4-1.
- CSUSM got an insurance run which eventually became the game winner with a two-out RBI single by Jillian Albayati that plated Lauren Deplitch who had led off the inning with an infield single, making it 5-1.
- The Coyotes scored single runs in the fifth and sixth with a 2-RBI single by Emile Lapena and an RBI single by Alex Hooper, respectively, to make it a one-run ballgame (5-4).
- Dahlia Fink forced three groundouts in the seventh to secure the CSUSM win.

- CSUSM's starting pitcher Savannah Coyle (10-4) earned the win after going 4.0 innings, allowing only four runs on seven hits and one walk.
- Entering in relief, Dahlia Fink (2) collected the save after throwing two shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.
- CSUSB starting pitcher Samantha Vargas (9-4) took the loss after allowing four runs without recording an out, giving up three walks and hitting one batter.
- CSUSM extended its winning streak to six games with the sweep.
- Fink, who went 2-for-2 in the game, is now 5-for-8 (.625) on the season.
