No. 25 CSUSM Walks Off Nightcap to Earn Split with No. 13 CSUEB
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 25 Cal State San Marcos softball team (35-16, 21-13) CCAA) split Friday's doubleheader with No. 13 Cal State East Bay (35-11, 23-10 CCAA). The Cougars dropped game one, 5-2, before Paige Donnelly hit a walk-off RBI double in the ninth to take game two, 2-1, from the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Gianna Lombardi stole second and Madison Waymire took advantage of a CSUEB error to score a run.
- CSUSM extended its lead in the fourth inning to 2-0 on a Lombardi leadoff home run over the left center wall.
- East Bay went up 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning. The Pioneers tied the game on RBI singles by Cynthia Carrillo and Marissa Farias before taking the lead on a bases-loaded walk.
- The Cougars had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth but a 5-2-3 double play ended the inning.
- The Pioneers made it 4-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Alexas Zumstein.
- East Bay added one more run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Annelise Garcia.

- CSUEB pitcher Ashlee Toy (13-5) recorded the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk in a complete-game outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An RBI single by Gianna Lombardi in the bottom of the sixth snapped Pioneer pitcher Marissa Quintero's streak of 25 consecutive shutout innings, giving CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
- The Pioneers evened the game at 1-1 on a full-count, leadoff home run by Alexa Zumstein in the top of the seventh.
- Makenzie Guiliano led off the ninth inning with an infield single to second and scored on Paige Donnelly's RBI double to right center to give CSUSM the 2-1 win.

- CSUSM starting pitcher Dahlia Fink retired the first 15 batters before giving up the Pioneers' first hit of the game in the top of the sixth.
