Melanese Named CSC Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Redshirt junior Nick Melanese of the Cal State San Marcos men's cross county/track & field teams has been named to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America second team.

Melanese is coming off his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as he competed in the 1500-meter run this year after competing in the 800-meter run in 2023. During the regular season, Melanese posted the second-fastest 1500-meter time in program history at 3:44.80, earning him USTFCCCA All-Region honors.

Out of 48 Division II honorees, Melanese was one of 14 members with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He was one of two to be named to the Academic All-America team from the CCAA as Chico State's Dylan White also earned second-team honors.

Melanese is the third CSC Academic All-American in program history as Frederik Jahr (2016) and Joshua Witwiller (2020) previously earned the honor.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America program.
