CSUSM Posts 1-1 Draw in Season Opener Against UCCS

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (0-0-1) began its 2024 season with a 1-1 draw against Colorado Colorado Springs (0-0-1) on Thursday afternoon at The Cage.

CSUSM – 51' Brooklyn Baker (Assisted by Ryan Meinardus)
UCCS – 70' Nick Walker (Penalty Kick)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first 45 minutes went scoreless but saw the Cougars have a 7-3 advantage on shots while the Mountain Lions had a 5-4 edge on corner kicks.
  • CSUSM scored its first goal of the season in the 51st minute with a shot to the lower right net by Brooklyn Baker after an assist from Ryan Meinardus.
  • After a CSUSM foul in the box, UCCS evened the game in the 70th minute with a penalty kick goal from Nick Walker into the right side of the goal.

  • CSUSM ended the game with a 10-9 edge in shots while both teams put four shots on goal.
  • UCCS had a 10-5 advantage on corner kicks.
  • A combined total of 26 fouls were assessed.
  • The Cougars had a slight lead in possession at 52% of the contest while taking 63% of its possessions in Mountain Lion territory.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between CSUSM and UCCS.
