IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (5-3) put together 18 hits in its 6-1 win over Concordia University Irvine (4-5) on Friday evening at Eagles Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With runners on the corners and two outs, Morrell hit an RBI single into left to score Sean McGrew and give CSUSM an 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- A two-out homer to left by CUI's Nick Hansen tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Cougars took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on the corners and one out, Morrell laid down a bunt single down the third-base line to score Niko Diaz. With the bases loaded and two outs, Adams earned an RBI on a single up the middle, but a fielding error on the Golden Eagles' centerfielder allowed two more runs to score.
- After Anthony Pacino singled and stole second, he scored on an RBI single by Adams to make it a 6-1 game in the top of the ninth.
- CUI tried to make a game of it in the bottom of the ninth with a walk by Nathan Benefeito and a double down the left field line by Landry Spitler, but a groundout to second ended the game.

- CSUSM starter Conner Gleissner (1-1) earned the win after allowing just one run on one hit and a walk in 6.0 innings while striking out six.
- CUI reliever Matthew Williams (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits while tossing one strikeout in just an inning of work.
- CUI starter Josh Pugh struck out 10 Cougars in 6.0 innings while allowing just one run on nine hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
- Out of CSUSM's 18 hits, only one went for extra bases.
- This was the Cougars' second consecutive win over the Golden Eagles, both in Irvine.
- CSUSM also tallied 18 hits in its 15-3 win at CUI last season.
