Cougars Unable to Tame Wildcats in Series Opener; Saturday Doubleheader Moved to 11 A.M.
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (21-19, 16-15 CCAA) began its final home series of the season with a 9-3 loss to Chico State (26-16, 19-14 CCAA) on Friday at Dennis A. Pugh Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI fielder's choice by Mateo Lake as Phoenix Sommay crossed the plate for the game's first run.
- CSUSM went up 2-0 with an RBI single to left by Marco Pirruccello in the bottom of the second.
- Chico cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side by Casey Vogan.
- The Wildcats went up 3-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single to right by Troy Kent and a later CSUSM fielding error that allowed Kent to score.
- Chico kept the hits coming with an RBI single from Jeremy Keller in the sixth and a sacrifice fly by Thade Miller in the seventh before seeing Michael Baker hit an RBI double and Eric Arambula hit a two-run double in the eighth to make it 8-2.
- Pinch hitter Dylan Unangst hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Cougars' deficit to 8-3.
- The Wildcats scored the game's final run in the top of the ninth as Baker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 9-3.

- Chico's Evan Tomlinson (7-1) earned the win after striking out four while allowing two earned runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch in 6.0 innings.
- CSUSM's Spencer Anderson (5-2) took the loss after giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches while striking out one in 5.1 innings.
- Unangst's home run was his second of the season, and he improved his reached-base streak to seven games – the longest active streak on the team.
- This was CSUSM's first home against Chico State since 2018.
