CSUSM Sweeps APU, 4-1 and 2-1
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 23 Cal State San Marcos softball team (8-1) recorded a doubleheader sweep over visiting Azusa Pacific (3-6) on Saturday afternoon at CSUSM Softball Field. CSUSM took game one 4-1 before recording a late comeback in the nightcap to earn a 2-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- APU scored its lone run in the first inning on a Sierra Sandoval RBI groundout that plated Bella Fraser who led off the inning with a double to left center.
- After Madison Waymire drew a walk in the bottom of the frame, Paige Donnelly lined a home run to right center to put CSUSM up 2-1.
- CSUSM extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Jillian Albayati solo home run to left center.
- San Marcos' final run came in the fifth inning, taking advantage of an APU throwing error to second to pick off Jordan Elias who advanced all the way home to make it 4-1.
QUICK HITS
- Jayline Sloss (3-0) collected the win after going 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits, four walks and two hit batters while striking out three.
- Savannah Coyle picked up her second save of the season after forcing two ground outs and a fly out to end the game in the top of the seventh.
- Tossing a complete game, APU's Mia Castillo (2-2) took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks.
- With her single in the bottom of the first, Savannah Coyle extended her streak of reaching base safely to 15 games.
- Paige Donnelly and Jillian Albayati each notched their first home runs of the season in the opener, making it four different Cougars to homer this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Delaney Prater hit a one-out double to right center, she scored on Mackenzie Kestler's RBI single through the right side to put CSUSM up 1-0 in the second inning.
- APU evened the game at 1-all in the top of the fourth on Julia Doan's RBI bunt.
- CSUSM's game winner came in the bottom of the sixth when Jillian Albayati singled to left center and pinch runner Macy Fuller scored from first on an APU error.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Dahlia Fink got a no decision after going 5.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two.
- Savannah Coyle (3-1) registered the win after 2.0 innings of shutout softball, giving up only one hit while fanning two batters.
- APU starter Ava Hernandez (0-2) took the loss after going 5.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk.
- Savannah Coyle saw her reached-base streak come to an end after going 0-1 in a pinch-hitting scenario.
- Aneesa Arredondo has the longest current streak of reaching base safely (eight) and hitting (six) on the team now.
