CSUSM Falls 2-0 at Vanguard
COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (1-1-2) took its first loss of 2025, falling 2-0 at Vanguard (2-2-0) on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions struck first in the 11th minute, pass into the box by Kate Burns found Abby Grabowski, who put a low rolling shot into the bottom left portion of the goal to give Vanguard a 1-0 lead.
- After 45 minutes, CSUSM had a 5-3 advantage in shots, a 2-1 edge in shots on goal and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks,
- Vanguard struck again in the 77th minute as a lob pass across the box from Kennedy Cypher found the head of Kaitlyn Currier, who put the ball into the top left corner of the goal to make it a 2-0 game.

- CSUSM ended the game with the edge in shots (11-7), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (5-4).
- Brittany Brown, Danielle Paulson and Natalie Paulson led the Cougars with two shots each.
- This was the first meeting between CSUSM and Vanguard since 2014.

CSUSM will return to The Cage for a Senior Day contest against Westmont on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Before the game at 12:10 p.m., the Cougars will honor seniors Kaci Embree, Natalia Huntington, Nani Kia'aina, Emily Mahmoud, Gabby Marsh, Diana Mendoza, Danielle Paulson and Natalie Paulson.
