Cougars Fall to SDSU in Exhibition Opener
SAN DIEGO – In its first exhibition of the 2024-25 season, the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team fell 76-48 to San Diego State on Monday night at Viejas Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A pair buckets from Johnson and Hetrick put CSUSM up 4-3 over the Aztecs in the first minute and thirty seconds.
- The Aztecs responded with a 10-1 run before Johnson stopped it with a short jumper in the lane with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
- SDSU concluded the first quarter with a 24-12 lead over the Cougars.
- The Cougars trailed 38-18 at halftime to the Aztecs after shooting 38.1% (8-of-21) from the field to SDSU's 46.2% (12-of-26).
- Johnson led CSUSM in points at the break with six while SDSU's Veroni Sheffey and Erin Houpt each contributed seven points.
- CSUSM put together a 6-0 run in the third quarter capped by a Hetrick drive down the middle for a layup to cut the SDSU lead to 40-23 with 7:51 remaining.
- Hetrick led all second-half scorers with 14, going 2-of-2 from the 3-point line, 4-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

- This was the first meeting between CSUSM and San Diego State.
- CSUSM ended the night shooting 37.2% (16-of-43) while SDSU registered 39.0% (23-of-59).
- The Aztecs had the advantage in rebounds (36-29), assists (11-8) and steals (13-4) while committing fewer turnovers (28-13).
- SDSU's Adryana Quezada tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

CSUSM will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. against Point Loma in the PacWest CCAA Conference Challenge hosted by Azusa Pacific.
