CSUSM Comeback Falls Short at Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (4-18, 3-11 CCAA) dropped a four-set decision (22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 14-25) to Cal State Monterey Bay (6-15, 5-9 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set 1 (25-22, CSUMB): The Cougars battled back from an early deficit to tie the set at 8-8, but the Otters responded with a 6-1 run to take control. CSUSM closed the gap late, pulling within 23-21 before CSUMB sealed the set with a kill from Malia Peterson.
  • Set 2 (25-23, CSUMB): CSUSM led 16-15 after a block by Kassie Cooley and Nelia Trower, but the Otters surged ahead with a 4-0 run. The Cougars tied it at 23-23 on a kill by Jules Tindall before a service error and an attack error gave CSUMB the win.
  • Set 3 (25-20, CSUSM): CSUSM found its rhythm, using a 5-1 run to take a 15-13 lead. Seligmiller's back-to-back service aces helped extend the advantage, and the Cougars held off a late Otter rally to win the set and force a fourth set.
  • Set 4 (25-14, CSUMB): CSUMB opened with a 4-0 run and never trailed. Juliette Deliseo led the Otters with five kills in the frame.
