Flores Named FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior goalkeeper Tony Flores of Cal State San Marcos earned FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors after back-to-back shutouts secured the Cougars' spot in the CCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history. Flores notched two clean sheets over Cal Poly Pomona and UC Merced, with seven saves across the weekend.
On Friday, Oct. 31, against Cal Poly Pomona, Flores made five saves to secure a 1-0 win over the Broncos. The clean sheet marked his third of the season and helped the Cougars earn three crucial points in the conference standings.
Building on that momentum, he added two more saves during Sunday's 1-0 victory over UC Merced, officially sending Cal State San Marcos back to postseason play.
Following these performances, Flores now ranks fourth in the CCAA in shutouts per game (4). He is also fifth in saves per game (3.33) and seventh in goals-against average (1.407). This season, he has totaled 50 saves, the seventh-most in the conference.
This week marks the first time Flores has received the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honor and the first defensive recognition of the season for Cal State San Marcos.
The Cougars will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 6, hosting Cal State LA at The Cage for their regular-season finale at 11:30 a.m. Fans can watch the match live on FloCollege.
