Cougars Open CCAA Play with 61-52 Win Over Otters
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 CCAA) overcame a slow start to record a 61-52 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay (2-2, 0-1 CCAA) on Wednesday evening at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• CSUMB jumped out to a 6-0 lead by 8:21 of the first quarter behind transition buckets from Riley Walls and A'ajah Slocum.
• CSUSM answered with a 3-pointer by Tatum Tamashiro at 6:19 to trim the deficit to 8-5.
• The Otters led 17-11 after the first quarter as Kate Bobadilla's second-chance 3-pointer with 32 seconds left kept the Cougars within two possessions.
• Early in the second, Aliyah Young sparked CSUMB with a second-chance three at 9:12 and a layup at 8:12 to push the margin to 22-13.
• CSUSM seized its first lead with a Portia Polo layup at 2:56 (30-29) and extended it to 34-29 on a Tamashiro fastbreak layup at 1:41.
• CSUSM led 34-33 at halftime after shooting 43.3% (13-of-30) from the field and 55.6% (5-of-9) from three, while CSUMB shot 40.6% (13-of-32) and 33.3% (3-of-9).
• The Otters briefly went back ahead 35-34 at 9:33 of the third, but CSUSM responded with a 10-1 run capped by a Tamashiro layup at 3:58 for a 42-35 lead.
• CSUMB tied it 44-44 on a Walls three at 8:41 of the fourth before Hani answered with a three at 8:15 to make it 47-44 CSUSM.
• Tamashiro converted three free throws at 4:04 to push the lead to 54-48, and Haan's layups at 2:29 and 1:26 stretched it to the Cougars' largest advantage at 58-48.
